Short Story
Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by Titans. Titans are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest Titans. Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a Titan in over 100 years. Until that day.....

Orchid stormed away from them, furious. She did more good in the Military Police than the Scouts ever did, anyway. A solitary tear ran down her face as she wandered, the festival forgotten.

Talking to the MP had made Reia think of her own mother, and of that day in Shiganshina, when everything changed. Why did she have to come to the city on that day? What were the odds? In her mind, she saw her mother's face, concerned and kind, silently asking her to come home. Then that same face, looking back at her from the hand of a titan, mouthing the words "I love you" before she was eaten alive.

"Are you alright?" Levi asked, breaking her from her reverie.

"Fine," Reia muttered. "Just thinking."
